time flies...

So much has happened since our last post.
A few weeks after the NYC heatwave of 2013, Adrian's little brother was born.
On our 5 year wedding anniversary.

Introducing... Maxwell Mazur Malinowski.
dob: July 26, 2013

Weighing in at almost 9 lbs at birth, with a healthy appetite. Over the next few weeks, he quickly gained weight and at 1 month clocked in at a whopping 12 lbs. He is making a name for himself in this family, and Adrian has taken to him quite nicely.

Our last few doctor's visits have been rough. Adrian has realized that every time we go, he gets a shot. He's fine in the waiting room, loves playing with the wooden trucks, making eyes at all the nurses and baby girls waiting to be seen, but once the time comes to go into the little room and take off his clothes to get weighed and measured, he isn't having any of it. He IMMEDIATELY breaks out into a full blown crying breakdown. I have managed to hug him close, hold him, let him know that everything will be OK for the last few visits. But once the doctor comes close to him with the stethoscope, and asks to look in his ears, he knows that the shot is coming next, and he clings on to me for dear life. He gets his vaccine and his eyes go wide with horror and they say, "MOMMY! WHY WOULD YOU LET HER DO THAT TO ME!!!" I have been able to give him a colorful lollipop (still in the wrapper) which has quieted him down.

I knew that this time would be different. Adrian is much more opinionated these days, and I am much more pregnant than our last visit. My energy level is way low and with the heat wave we are having in NYC, I knew I would have to resort to different tactics. So this time, he got that lollipop (wrapper off!), his first lollipop ever, once he had to be weighed and measured. After a brief stint of hysteria, he sucked and drooled happily all around the office, occasionally offering me a taste.

He was much calmer when the doctor checked him this time because she bribed him with a second lolli. But once he realized he was going to get another shot, he immediately threw it at her and kicked her with all his might. This is a photo of after his shot. It's amazing how quickly he calmed down once get got his lollipop back.
But he still was pissed.

I'm on a boat!

On Fishers Island last week driving the aluminum boat with daddy.

In about a month, Adrian's whole world is about to be turned upside down. He's going to have a new sibling, and moving from the only home he has ever known. New room, new noises, new everything. We can't prepare him for the move, but we can (in some way) prepare him for the arrival of a baby.

We got Adrian a baby doll. A "multi-cultural" tan doll. With a diaper.
That. He. Loves.

Hopefully we'll get this same response when the real deal comes home...

Adrian LOVES his daddy's shoes. Well, shoes in general. He's trying his best to figure out how to put them on himself. He's so persistent. Just like his father.

He's so curious. Curious about everything. We've got a new whale faucet protector. Adrian LOVES taking a bath. I mean, drop all toys and B-line it to the bathroom, jump in the tub with his clothes on, LOVES baths.

Fingerpainting! Fingerpainting! Fingerpainting!

It's the end of an era.
My little boy is officially a toddler. A walkin' man. For a long time he dabbled with taking a few steps here and there to pacify his parents.
Crawling was just so much faster.

But this is about the last of it.
Adrian now walks every chance he gets. You can't hold him down. He high steps with his hands out by his side and an exuberant smile slapped across his face.
I can't get enough of him.

Yesterday we went walking in the Brooklyn Botanic Gardens. He protested when we left because he had to go back in his stroller. Thank goodness the weather is getting warm! Our walks are about to get a lot longer if Adrian begins resisting his stroller.

I am in NO RUSH for Adrian to start walking.
We are super content with his fierce fast crawling, as walking poses a whole host of new parental challenges.
But, boy, are new stages fun :-)
Adrian takes a first few tentative steps.

Adrian's first birthday!

On Jan. 17th, we all celebrated Adrian's first birthday. I smiled at him goofily all day, showering him with kisses, and exaggerated smiles, repeating, "It's your birthday!" Seems as though my smiles were contagious. We had a great day. Grandma came up from DC to celebrate. I continue to be overwhelmed by how fast this year went by.

We had a small celebration on his actual birthday where
Adrian had his first piece of cake...

with SUGAR.

On Saturday, we had a small party with family and friends. Thank you all who could make it. Thank you all who sent your love and affection our way.
Adrian had a blast being the center of attention and opening up his presents.

Alex was a big help handing out presents :-)

I think everyone had fun.

We sure did!
Happy birthday big boy :-)

"I LOVE BROCCOLI!" exclaims Adrian every time he gets it.
He smiles contentedly throughout the whole meal and offers me some every once and a while. I must oblige with a huge smile on my face because, who knows how long this will last?!
But now it's documented. So when he gets a little older and starts to refusing anything green, I can say, "...but you used to LOVE it!" And he can't say otherwise.

Adrian's helping.
I'm cleaning... and I look over and Adrian is "reorganizing" his drawers.
Pulling everything out, and giggling all the while.
After a few minutes of this madness, I look over and see what he was trying to get to.
His ball :-)

Over the holidays, my mom bought Adrian his first pair of shoes. We went to the place she used to buy my baby shoes. It looked the same, and smelled the same, and brought back a ton of memories. That night, Adrian didn't want to take his shoes off.
Now, every time he sees them, he puts them on top of his feet and barks at me to put them on him. They are so flippin cute. Thanks mom!
